To-Jo Mushrooms
Avondale, Chester County, PA
To-Jo Mushrooms grew out of a stone quarry that Joseph A. D'Amico purchased in Avondale in the early 1930s, which included a small mushroom house. His sons expanded output through the 1950s, and the business was later split into a growing operation and To-Jo Mushrooms for sales and marketing. Now a fourth-generation family operation, To-Jo employs about 300 people and produces more than 60 million pounds of mushrooms a year across 44 mushroom houses, spanning fresh, prepared, and food-products businesses.
